BEW - Clarinet and Percussion (Demo)

Using nanostudio on my phone to record, edit, sequence mix, and upload a track to soundcloud. Great sketch and share tool.

A room full of percussion was explored over a few lunch breaks. I made a palette of sounds using glockenspiel, marimba, and drum kit. I added some older samples of a clarinet and made the short track imbedded above.

Black Market at the Black Box this Sunday.
I was having a bit of a Spring clean and I now have a small collection of audio, photo and video equipment for sale.

In addition to the equipment I'll have a box of vinyl for sale: a mix of 12s 10s and 7s of a range of styles and qualities. Come along, browse and make me an offer.

Cavan Fyans - Tech Survey

Cavan Fyans (NoiseStopRepeat) is doing some research at SARC. He's a good chap who I met after he delivered a FLOSS workshop in Belfast a while ago. He needs some more recruits. If you are inclined to help you could take his survey

There's quite a lot going on there. It's a bit messy. I like it.

Warm Moving Bodies - OBG 051109

Warm Moving Bodies
Ormeau Bath Gallery
Thursday 5th November
7pm - 10pm / Free admission

---------------
Exquisite corpse is a method by which a series of words or images is collectively assembled, generating unexpected artistic collisions and chaotic harmonies. Based on a parlour game, it was first adopted by the Surrealists as a playful diversion but which quickly became an enriching creative technique.
---------------
Witness the results of three games of Exquisite Corpse adapted for sound, moving image and drawing and played out by a host of local artists. For one night original artwork created using the principles of Exquisite Corpse will be presented throughout the gallery with opportunities for visitors to interact and create throughout the evening. Organised by Ryan Darragh (Oscillations Festival) this evening promises to be full of the unexpected artistic collisions and chaotic harmonies you can expect from a game where unpredictability is the main event.

Neanderthal Electronics with Derek Holzer

Neanderthal Electronics was the title of the week long workshops I recently attended at Digital Arts Studios. Our tutor was Derek Holzer an American artist/musician based in berlin who is touring his tutorial showing people like me (IE: mathematics and physics failures) how to make analogue synths from scratch using simple, cheap and easy to source electronic components.

The end result is a cigar box with knobs and switches and an 'acoustic laptop', both of which shall be used in the upcoming show with Mi Ami and Glissando along with some other bonus material that hasn't been heard before.

November do far...

I've been busy making.
A small smoker building to slowly cook meat and fish.

Audio recording using some old equipment I hadn't taken out of storage for quite a long time.

Video edits of clips I hadn't previously had the time to view properly.

Live performances of my new material using my laptop recordings plus some of my old noisey hardware.

Watching and listening to other pieces of fierce music.

Hanging out with charming people.

Goodtimes.

Audio visual frippery

Can we "see" sound? The simple answer is , "No!". It's also not the correct answer. Maybe.

Our brains (impressive, meaty computers that they are) can use light to hear and sound to see, says a recenly published article. The feedback in the comments section, however suggests otherwise.

Pop over to Live Science and read on if you're interested. If you want an example you might prefer to experience motion bounce.

This information was taken from the Microsound list.
