IMPRINT Presents: The Host (Planet Mu) Live Set 070613

IMPRINT Presents:
THE HOST (live)
+ IMPRINT DJs
+ Visuals by B.E.W

Friday 7th June 2013
The Menagerie
£5.00

For the next IMPRINT showcase, we have an absolute cracker for you all.

Planet Mu's The Host will be emerging for a unique, live performance of cosmic sounds at The Menagerie on Friday 7th June.

Known in the real world as Barry Lynn, The Host works in a spacey interzone, using vintage gear to create dramatic panoramas for the open mind. He works with a unique suite of modern sonics that tumble and waft in and out of the mix, earthed with strong melodies that take inspiration from net-age genres while putting an entirely different spin on them.

This is a rare opportunity to catch The Host live and surrounded by real hardware so strap on your moon boots and join us for an evening of shimmering psychedelia.

In preparation here's the latest IMPRINT podcast featuring Barry Lynn in The Host mode.

RESET Records Launch 240311

From the Facebook Event page:

The Menagerie, 130 University Street, Belfast

In a bold move representing a modest, but significant, first step towards world domination, we, the RESET collective, are preparing to launch an independent record label, which after many hours of drug-fuelled debate, quasi-monastic soul-searching and scholarly deliberation we have decided to call... *drum roll*… R E S E T !

To mark this momentous occasion we’ll be throwing down the craic gauntlet this Saturday night at the Menagerie, with our first FEELGOOD SOUL-PARTY JAM of 2012. BOO-YA!!

To help us celebrate, we’ve invited Chester-based producer REAL - a prolific young talent with a colouful, exuberant production style – to deliver what promises to be an eminently danceable live set of skewed house and soulful garage.

Real Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/real

Brian Greene will also be busting out his considerable live soul chops once again, while Defcon and Kab Driver are apparently planning DJ sets filled with “balls to the wall” party tunes to satisfy the inner Patrick Swayze in all of you.

Expect BROKEN HOUSE, DIRTY FONK, and SPACE VIBEZ galore.

PLUS - Psych-tastic live visuals by the one and only B.E.W.

9.30pm - £5

Come one, come all!!

RST001

The inaugural RESET release is a 9-track mini-album of dub-inflected, cosmic hiphop excursions by DEFCON, entitled IN BINARY SHRINES. Exclusive advance copies will be available to purchase at the gig on Saturday in the form of a limited edition digipak CD, adorned with some propa natty psychedelic artwork:

Video Bending 220311

My first experiment circuit bending a device with a video output.

It's a 6v video games console making noise from a PAL CRT TV using crocodile clips, pots and contact points.

I've tried to improve the capture quality of the picture and sound by plugging straight into my Canopus ADVC110 - but then it doesn't oscillate as it did straight to TV.

It still functions as a bent signal jammer when put through an effects generator - even over riding the wipe function with noise.

Pressure present Oneman 100710

Pressure had Oneman (Rinse FM/Radio1) over at the Black Box.
They played a great bunch of records and plenty of people got up and did a bit of shaking
(the soundsystem helped make things dance even if they didn't choose to).

Hot Flush NIght - Menagerie - 131109

From Resident Advisor:
"Fresh from his residency in Berlin's legendary Berghain nightclub, dubstep pioneer Scuba along with fellow label artist, Sigha, is set to play an exclusive set in Belfast’s top underground venue, The Mangerie on Friday, 13th November courtesy of Rudimentary Records.

Renowned for his innovative approach, Scuba is a DJ at the forefront of the dubstep/techno alliance. Having fset up the influential 'Hotflush' imprint, he has released tracks by artists such as, Mount Kimbie, Benga, Joy Orbison and Boxcutter. Talking about his label Scuba, aka Paul Rose says ”All we’ve tried to do...is make sure the full spectrum of the music is heard.”

Scuba’s music often uses unusual sounds, atypical of the dubstep genre. His seminal release, ‘A Mutual Antipathy’ combined massive, wobbling sub-bass, and elements of four to the floor, Basic Channel-style dub techno and was a hit with fans of dubstep and techno alike.

Support on the night comes from Sigha. London-based newcomer releasing
tracks on Hotflush, Immerse and Lost Souls. Recently featured on Mary - Anne Hobbs’ Radio One Show.

Sigha’s sound blends elements of Dubstep, Techno and Minimal in both his productions and his DJ sets. His First Release (Bruised/ Expansions) dropped on Hotflush Two in early 2009.

Also featuring on the night will be Rudimentary residents who will be celebrating there first release as a newly formed record label, with the first release due November. The Ep will feature tunes from new-comer Yoru.

Bass hungry steppers will delight in this opportunity to catch some of the best in the business on their home turf. Not to be missed"

I've been asked to do visuals - sure 'nuff ; 'n' yes I do...

Audio Visual Fun

Animal Collective "My Girls" from Chad von Nau on Vimeo. As is the norm, I've been looking through the blogs and sites that usually throw up information about the latest in hard and software related to audio and video. In order to test out some of the stuff doing the rounds I think I'm going to have to invest in a MAC. Whilst I try to save up a few clams to get that sorted, I'll share some lil' treats with you.

One of the talented individuals I met as a teenager growing up in Carryduff was Danny Todd. His band have released their debut single on No Dancing records. It is good (I think you should buy it). They played a show to promote it. I was there. Great fun.
