Broken Record Series

Just in case this slipped past you (I found it whilst playing catch up on Andrew Dubber's New Music Strategies) here are the four parts of the Broken Record Series.

I don't know if it really needed to be called a series as it could have been compiled into one single programme. Nevertheless it's got some interesting segments that i thought were worth sharing.

Mariah Carey

It starts off as shmaltsy karaoke, but then it takes off into a different dimension. Psychoacoustic fun. Make sure your pets are tethered to something stable.

Hot Flush NIght - Menagerie - 131109

From Resident Advisor:
"Fresh from his residency in Berlin's legendary Berghain nightclub, dubstep pioneer Scuba along with fellow label artist, Sigha, is set to play an exclusive set in Belfast’s top underground venue, The Mangerie on Friday, 13th November courtesy of Rudimentary Records.

Renowned for his innovative approach, Scuba is a DJ at the forefront of the dubstep/techno alliance. Having fset up the influential 'Hotflush' imprint, he has released tracks by artists such as, Mount Kimbie, Benga, Joy Orbison and Boxcutter. Talking about his label Scuba, aka Paul Rose says ”All we’ve tried to do...is make sure the full spectrum of the music is heard.”

Scuba’s music often uses unusual sounds, atypical of the dubstep genre. His seminal release, ‘A Mutual Antipathy’ combined massive, wobbling sub-bass, and elements of four to the floor, Basic Channel-style dub techno and was a hit with fans of dubstep and techno alike.

Support on the night comes from Sigha. London-based newcomer releasing
tracks on Hotflush, Immerse and Lost Souls. Recently featured on Mary - Anne Hobbs’ Radio One Show.

Sigha’s sound blends elements of Dubstep, Techno and Minimal in both his productions and his DJ sets. His First Release (Bruised/ Expansions) dropped on Hotflush Two in early 2009.

Also featuring on the night will be Rudimentary residents who will be celebrating there first release as a newly formed record label, with the first release due November. The Ep will feature tunes from new-comer Yoru.

Bass hungry steppers will delight in this opportunity to catch some of the best in the business on their home turf. Not to be missed"

I've been asked to do visuals - sure 'nuff ; 'n' yes I do...

Warm Moving Bodies - OBG 051109

Warm Moving Bodies
Ormeau Bath Gallery
Thursday 5th November
7pm - 10pm / Free admission

---------------
Exquisite corpse is a method by which a series of words or images is collectively assembled, generating unexpected artistic collisions and chaotic harmonies. Based on a parlour game, it was first adopted by the Surrealists as a playful diversion but which quickly became an enriching creative technique.
---------------
Witness the results of three games of Exquisite Corpse adapted for sound, moving image and drawing and played out by a host of local artists. For one night original artwork created using the principles of Exquisite Corpse will be presented throughout the gallery with opportunities for visitors to interact and create throughout the evening. Organised by Ryan Darragh (Oscillations Festival) this evening promises to be full of the unexpected artistic collisions and chaotic harmonies you can expect from a game where unpredictability is the main event.
